Autism and ADHD Assessments for Universities

At NeuroFocus UK, we offer specialist, face-to-face autism and ADHD assessments designed for students in higher education.

Our goal is to help universities provide timely, compassionate assessments that enable students to access the understanding and support they need to succeed.

We understand that university can be an exciting but challenging time, particularly for students who may be neurodivergent and have not yet had the opportunity for an assessment. Our service bridges that gap — offering clarity, understanding, and tailored recommendations that strengthen student wellbeing and engagement across the university.

Understanding and Supporting Students

Many students arrive at university without a diagnosis, often after years of masking or managing in ways that have required immense effort. When difficulties with attention, organisation, socialising in a new setting, or managing stress emerge, the impact can be significant — academically and emotionally.

Recent data highlights the scale of this challenge: around one in three autistic undergraduates in the UK leave university before completing their course (The Tab, 2024). The data reflects a clear need for earlier access to assessment and support within higher education, and shows that many students are still navigating university life without the understanding or adjustments that can make the experience sustainable and positive.

A clear and compassionate assessment can help students feel understood and supported, while enabling universities to put in place the right adjustments and guidance. Our work helps institutions meet their wellbeing, retention, and equality goals, creating a more inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Our Approach

Our service is grounded in clinical expertise and neuroaffirmative values.

We recognise that neurodivergence reflects different ways of thinking, learning, and engaging — each with its own strengths and challenges.

We approach every assessment with curiosity, respect, and care.

Each assessment is structured and thorough, involving at least three HCPC-registered clinicians to ensure depth, accuracy, and fairness. The process combines a range of evidence-based components:

  • Initial information-gathering – drawing on questionnaires and background details to build a clear picture of the student’s current experience and history.
  • Developmental history interview – providing context and insight into lifelong patterns of thinking, learning, and behaviour.
  • ADOS observation assessment – carried out face to face by two clinicians (a Clinical Psychologist and a Speech and Language Therapist) to provide observational depth and a nuanced understanding of communication and interaction, which can be overlooked in remote assessments.

Our approach includes:

  • Neuroaffirmative, strengths-based practice – recognising ability, resilience, and individuality.
  • Specialist understanding of female presentations and masking – addressing an area often overlooked in assessment.
  • Tailored recommendations – written specifically for higher education contexts, supporting Disability and Wellbeing Teams in creating meaningful plans and adjustments.

➡️ You can read more about each stage of the assessment process on our What to Expect page.

Workplaces

Autism and ADHD Assessments in the Workplace

At NeuroFocus UK, we provide specialist autism and ADHD assessments which help organisations understand and support neurodivergent employees — fostering inclusion, wellbeing, and effective performance.

Through clear, evidence-based recommendations, we help HR, wellbeing, and leadership teams build workplaces where people can work to their strengths and perform at their best.

Understanding and Supporting Employees

Many professionals reach adulthood without a diagnosis, having developed effective but exhausting strategies to cope in environments not designed with neurodiversity in mind. When challenges emerge — with focus, organisation, communication, or managing workload — the impact can be considerable.

A timely and accurate assessment can bring clarity, reduce stress, and allow individuals and their teams to access the right understanding and support. For organisations, it’s an opportunity to embed inclusion through understanding, while improving wellbeing and retention.

Our Approach

Our service is grounded in clinical expertise and neuroaffirmative values.

We recognise that neurodivergence reflects different ways of thinking, learning, and communicating — each bringing valuable perspectives and strengths to the workplace.

Each assessment is structured and thorough, involving at least three HCPC-registered clinicians to ensure depth, accuracy, and fairness. The process combines a range of evidence-based components:

  • Initial information-gathering – drawing on questionnaires and background information relevant to workplace experience.
  • Developmental history interview – exploring lifelong patterns of learning, focus, and communication.
  • ADOS observation assessment – carried out face to face by two clinicians (a Clinical Psychologist and a Speech and Language Therapist) to provide observational depth and a nuanced understanding of communication and interaction, which can be overlooked in remote assessments.

Our approach includes:

  • Neuroaffirmative, strengths-based practice – highlighting ability, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Specialist understanding of female presentations and masking – addressing areas frequently under-recognised in adults.
  • Tailored recommendations – written specifically for professional settings, supporting both employees and managers with clear, practical guidance.

Why In-House Assessments Matter

At NeuroFocus UK, we carry out assessments at your workplace, allowing us to understand each individual within their everyday professional environment.

This approach enables us to:

  • Improve accessibility – conducting assessments within the workplace removes the need for travel and additional appointments, making the process easier to access and less disruptive.
  • Understand context – seeing the working environment first-hand helps us appreciate how the workspace, role, and organisational culture influence focus, communication, and wellbeing.
  • Provide relevant, practical recommendations – our guidance is tailored to the realities of the workplace, making it straightforward to implement adjustments that genuinely support both the individual and the team.
  • Collaborate directly with your teams – where appropriate, we liaise with HR, Occupational Health, or management to ensure clarity, continuity, and effective outcomes.
  • Reduce barriers and waiting times – on-site assessments are efficient, accessible, and enable faster access to support.
  • Promote inclusion and good practice – offering workplace-based assessments demonstrates an active commitment to accessibility, wellbeing, and the Equality Act 2010.

By understanding people within the context of their work, our clinicians can provide insight and recommendations that are both clinically robust and meaningful in practice.

Individuals & Families

Autism and ADHD Assessments for Adults, Children, and Families

At NeuroFocus UK, we provide comprehensive autism and ADHD assessments for adults and children.

Our goal is to offer clarity and understanding — helping individuals and families make sense of lifelong patterns in attention, communication, and behaviour, and to access the right support for wellbeing and growth.

Every assessment is carried out with care and respect.

We take time to understand each person’s story and the context around their experiences, so our conclusions and recommendations feel relevant, supportive, and genuinely useful.

Why People Come to Us

Everyone’s experience of focus, learning, and interaction is unique.

Some adults come to us after years of feeling different, having adapted to environments that didn’t always make sense. Parents often seek answers when they notice a child finding aspects of school, communication, or daily life more challenging than expected.

You may be looking for:

  • A clearer understanding of yourself, your child, or your family member.
  • Insight into strengths, communication, or learning differences.
  • Guidance for education, employment, or relationships.
  • A formal diagnosis to access support, adjustments, or reasonable accommodations.

Whatever the reason, our role is to listen carefully and to provide thoughtful, evidence-based answers that support understanding and confidence.

Our Approach

Our service is grounded in clinical expertise and neuroaffirmative values.

Our approach is respectful, transparent, and focused on understanding each person’s individual strengths and needs.

Each assessment is structured and thorough, involving at least three HCPC-registered clinicians to ensure depth, accuracy, and fairness.

The process includes:

  • Initial information-gathering – using questionnaires to understand background and current experience.
  • Developmental history interview – exploring early experiences and lifelong patterns of thinking, learning, and communication.
  • Face-to-face ADOS assessment – conducted by two clinicians (a Clinical Psychologist and a Speech and Language Therapist) to explore communication, interaction, and behaviour in detail.

Our reports are written to be clear, validating, and practical — highlighting strengths as well as challenges, and offering recommendations for everyday life, learning, and wellbeing.

➡️ You can find more about each stage of our assessment process on our What to Expect page.

A Supportive, Neuroaffirmative Experience

We understand that seeking an assessment can feel significant,  whether for yourself or your child.

Our role is to make the process accessible, respectful, and supportive at every step.

  • We explain each stage clearly and check understanding along the way.
  • We focus on strengths and individuality, not deficits.
  • We take time to listen, ask questions, and ensure the experience feels collaborative.

Our clinicians have extensive experience working with adults, young people, and families.

We have particular expertise in female presentations, masking, and late diagnosis, helping to recognise profiles that may have been previously overlooked.

After Your Assessment

Following the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed written report and a feedback session to discuss the findings.

This includes:

  • A clear explanation of the assessment outcomes.
  • Diagnostic conclusions.
  • Tailored recommendations for home, education, or work.
  • Guidance on accessing ongoing support and adjustments.
